American Staghounds are sighthounds, and are Irish Wolfhound Scottish Deerhound Borzoi Greyhound combinations. American Staghounds are built for speed with long legs, deep chests, and strong muscles. Staghounds are very fast, but are not hyper active. They have great visual acuity, and think very quickly. American Staghounds can be found in an assortment of colors and color patterns. They have three coat types: the "shag" which more closely resembles the Scottish Deerhound, the "slick" which more closely resembles the Greyhound, and the smuff coat which is in between the two. American Staghounds have incredible endurance.
Very calm around the home, American Staghounds crave the attention of humans and are very affectionate to their owners. American Staghounds make wonderful companions and are good with children. Most Staghounds are also wonderful watchdogs due to their excellent vision. To some people, the Staghound may appear to be a bit lazy around the home once mature. American Staghounds are courageous, tenacious, and very determined.

Weight: Males 55-90 pounds (25-41 kg.) Females 45-75 pounds (20-34 kg.)
